Puerco Valley Fire District is a combination department, this gets it’s name because some employees are hired as full time and some are volunteer employees. All full time employees are required to be dual certified in fire and ems. Volunteers are eligible for training by the department and do have a chance of having further training paid for. Volunteers are expected to participate regularly in department training and maintain a level of certification such as a first responder. Volunteers are needed since the district is very large and the full time crews are very frequently stretched to the limit.
At Puerco Valley Fire District volunteers are much appreciated and have the opportunity to help their community be safe and learn how to be fire wise. Volunteers create interest and also inspire the youth of our community to become educated and promote a safer environment for themselves and family and friends. Volunteers spend much of their time at their normal full-time jobs, but are willing to give up their free time to assist when an emergency call is received.
